I'll be discussing tools and skills learned from academic and business settings that help engineers to problem-solve effectively. Feel free to explore and discover how to innovate and overcome challenges in your projects and businesses.
About Me.
My name is Sam, and I'm a microfabrication engineer at Axoft, a medical device start-up in Cambridge, MA. When I graduated with my Ph.D. and started in industry, my mind was spinning with all of the things I didn't know! Somehow I had been so busy learning how to innovate over the previous decade that I hadn't stopped to think about the important questions:
-
How should I choose what to create?
-
How should I approach problems I run into along the way?
-
How do I make sure my work aligns with the goals of the company?
I started learning about all the best-kept secrets in fields outside of engineering - like operations management, quality, and decision analytics. I believe that the most successful organizations will utilize data-driven decision-making, even when it means quantifying things that seem impossible to quantify.
